Teamwork for Technical Professionals

Scientists and Engineers are Increasing Required to Work Multifunctional Teams

Most engineers and scientists now work in teams. It is no longer possible to be a solitary figure. The problems and solutions are usually very complex with the correct answer to problems facing corporations being a combination of technical, financial, production, commercial, etc. Good team players are those who can develop positive working relationships with the other members. This is done by showing respect, helpfulness, cooperation and sometimes selflessness. Communication, especially listening is critical to make sure everyone on a team is on the same page. It is extremely important to show active and enthusiastic commitment to the team's project.

Regardless, a time will arise when conflicts occur. Conflict resolution has to occur or the underlying problem will fester leading to a loss in team effectiveness. It is important to get the parties in conflict to really listen to the other point of view and find a point of compromise or shared ideal.
